At just 19 years of age, Samuel Tefera promises to be one of the greatest mid-distance runners of all time. His gradual progression, beginning with a 3:33.78 time in Hengelo in 2017, has securely allowed him to be a global contender at any stage.

In February 2019, when a highly anticipated world record attempt for another Ethiopian runner – Yomif Kejelcha – was orchestrated by race organizers and pacers, Tefera humbly bided his time to outkick his compatriot and break the 22 year-old 1500 meter indoor world record with a time of 3:31.04. His performance, only unexpected to those fixated elsewhere, cemented him in the history books before his 20th birthday. The young star, now with the spotlight on him, promises to deliver even more.
