Biography

Bekele who hails from Nas, Ethiopia; made his name in athletics when he ran his personal best of 2:06:27 for his debut international marathon in Seoul, Korea. Running 2:06 for the marathon is impressive in itself; but doing it in a debut race is truly astonishing. Bekele then went on from Seoul to go ahead and collect his first career victory at the 2019 Frankfurt Marathon; out kicking a very talented field of athletes to cross the finish first. 

Bekele comes from a farming family in rural Ethiopia and only discovered his talent for running after primary school in an open cross country event. Moving to the capital of Addis Ababa to train was very foreign to Bekele; but once he made the transition his form blossomed and he took very well to the Marathon training. 

We are sure to see Fikre Bekele on top of a podium again very soon.
