Biography

Born in Assela, Ethiopia, Debela is a natural born leader. The self proclaimed "captain" of the ESM&M Marathon group; Debela is a strong, vocal leader and an advocate for athlete rights and the proper education of the business of athletics. 

Debela is not your typical marathon runner though. He carries a big frame and is a much larger athlete than you expect to see on the roads racing at such a high level; but his powerful, muscular stature has earned him not only a very fast 2:05:46 personal best time; but also wins at major marathon including Xiamen and Beijing; and a podium position in the Abbott World Marathon Majors Bank of America Chicago Marathon. 

Debela has made himself a force in the Marathon event and we will continue to see his name on top of podiums for years to come.
