Benard Ngeno
Biography
Born in Bureti, Kenya; Ngeno has not had the conventional path to athletics that most athletes from East Africa see. He originally did not plan to go to athletics himself; he wanted to come to the USA to further his education and learn a craft in the western world that he could bring home to help his countrymen and countrywomen. While in the USA he discovered road racing and he began training in between working and studying.
As time passed Ngeno found himself winning many smaller road races in the USA; and decided to take on a bigger event and see how he stacked up against professional athletes. He then ran and won the Azelea Trail Run 10km in a fast 27:54 time under very hot and humid conditions. The win and the time proved to Ngeno he should focus his time more on road racing as he had immense talent for athletics. He then turn professional and joined ESM&M.
Since that first professional win Ngeno has gone on to solidify himself as one of the top-5 half marathoners in the world; and one of the most dangerous front runners on the road racing circuit with wins in Bolder Boulder, Istanbul, San Diego and Safi.
